Spring Vehicle Maintenance Checklist with Leah Reeves
It’s Spring in Nova Scotia and many of our clients are getting ready to hit the trails on their ATVs. Leah Reeves, insurance broker in our Truro office, and her family are also gearing up for the season.
Leah, husband Jason, and two young boys love to 4-wheel as a family. They travel throughout Nova Scotia, and have enjoyed the trails across Newfoundland, New Hampshire, as well as the Trans Canada Trail system. “We like to do something every weekend if we can,” said Leah. “My two boys love to be in the woods.”
But before heading out this Spring, Leah recommends some spring time vehicle maintenance. “A little preparation before you head out can save you time and headaches,” said Leah. “We like to have our vehicles serviced, so we know that everything is safe and ready to go.”
Spring vehicle checklist:
- Check fluid levels, including oil, gas and brakes.
- Give the vehicle a once over to see if anything needs to be tightened.
- Inspect the tires to check the wear of the tires and tire pressure.
- Check the brakes.
- Don’t forget your safety gear. Check to see if helmets still fit and clean the visors.
- If everything seems in order, we recommend doing a short practice test drive.
- If the vehicle doesn’t seem to be running well, book an appointment at the shop to have it serviced.
- Make sure your vehicles have their license plates, registration and insurance cards.
- Always refer to your machine’s specific owner’s manual for further information and specifications.
- If you don’t feel comfortable doing the pre-season check, we recommend that you have a motorcycle or ATV shop do the servicing for you.
Leah and her family are excited to get on the trails as soon as possible. “It’s a great way to see the province of Nova Scotia in a new way,” Leah explains. “We can’t wait for the trail to join Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We are hoping for this to happen soon.”
