In-Storage Insurance Protects your Summer Ride

Automobile Insurace with Jordan White, CAIB

For you, summer means long drives in your sports car. Or hitting the open road in your RV. Or heading to the shore in your classic car ... with the top down, of course.

Sadly, as the air gets chilly and the snow starts to fly, it's time to put your summer vehicle away until spring. But what's the best way to make sure your vehicle is protected while it's in storage?

"You could continue your full coverage year-round," says Caldwell Roach's Jordan White, "Or you could cancel your policy and rewrite it in the spring. But your best option is vehicle-in-storage coverage."

In-storage coverage ensures that your vehicle is protected while it's off the road. It removes the liability portion of your policy for a period of time, while retaining the comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance protects you against damages to your automobile that aren't caused by an accident with another vehicle; damages caused by natural disasters, vandalism, theft or fire.

"Let's say you store your vehicle in a garage during the winter," Jordan explains, "If that structure happens to burn down, your in-storage policy will cover the damage or loss."

If you would usually cancel your coverage in the winter, in-storage coverage saves you the hassle of going through the process of reapplying for a policy each spring.

"More importantly, it saves you from the risk of what could happen to your vehicle while it's in storage," he goes on, "Damage from something completely out of your control could end up costing a lot of money in repairs, or even a total loss."

If you usually continue your full policy year-round, in-storage coverage saves you money, as your premiums are significantly less in the winter than during the warmer months.

Vehicle-in-storage coverage is already attached to your insurance policy, so activating it is easy.

"Just give us a call and it can be started with the click of a mouse."

And then you can start counting the days until spring.
